In a world often marked by violent conflict, ethnic tension, and divisive political rhetoric, peace can seem like an unattainable ideal. Yet each of us longs for peace and stability amid the chaos, even as we may feel that the problems before us are too large to solve.

By engaging this work together through Catholic Social Teaching and the Sacred Heart Way, we hope you will find the “courage and confidence” proclaimed by Saint Madeleine Sophie Barat to act on behalf of justice in the search for a lasting peace.

This curriculum outline, intended for Sacred Heart educators. is adapted from Using Catholic Social Teaching and the Sacred Heart Way to move from Education to Analysis to Action: Curriculum Outline and Resources, created by Meg Causey, RSCJ, Amanda Codina, Suzanne Cooke, RSCJ, and Mark Potter, PhD, for the Network of Sacred Heart Schools in the United States and Canada.

Together, Meg and Mark will share powerful resources for applying CST to analyze and act on social justice, while deepening its teachings on peace. Their theme—”If you want peace, work for justice”—promises transformative insights. Great resources will be available!

Meg Causey, RSCJ

Sister Meg’s career spans key roles at the Villa Lante Center in Rome and on the provincial team in the USC Province. She previously managed administration and curriculum at the Academy of the Sacred Heart in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan; founded the Duchesne Center at Manhattanville College in Purchase, New York; and taught ethics and theology. Deeply involved with the Network of Sacred Heart Schools, she led Oak Hill School in St. Louis for several years before entering the Society of the Sacred Heart. Her credentials include a PhD in theology from Marquette University, an MTS from Weston School of Theology, an MS in educational administration from Washington University, and a BS in English education from Louisiana State University, Baton Rouge.

Mark Potter

Mark serves as Head of the Religion Department at Newton Country Day School in Newton, MA, and works with me as a Consultant to the Network of Sacred Heart Schools USC for Justice, Peace, and Integrity of Creation (JPIC) and Religion.
